It’s been a few months so I thought I’d provide an update on Nolan. Yesterday he turned 8 months old, which is really hard to believe. Time is absolutely flying by. Now he can roll over front to back and back to front easily (and does so in his crib), can scoot backwards (we’ve seen him crawl forwards once but he’s been reluctant to do it since), and he recently got his first two bottom teeth in. On top of that, he’s babbling a lot more and has recently even started singing throughout the day. In fact depending on the time of day his “songs” are more high pitched screams of joy.
Yesterday after his dinner we took his customary monthly pictures in his diaper because it was hot at home. Afterwards, I started giving him a bath. About five minutes into the bath I heard some loud gas from within the tub (Brooke heard it 10 feet away). We both laughed at our gassy little guy……..that is until I noticed the serious look on his face. I then looked down and saw what looked like the BP oil spill in the gulf happening inside his plastic tub. Fortunately I was able to pick him up right after he was done, but before he could splash it everywhere, and thus it didn’t get on him. It was pretty funny holding him up under the faucet (especially since he was happier now and just wanted to play with the faucet and laugh).
I then handed him off to Brooke while I proceeded to dump the dump and sterilize the tub. It’s amazing how much waste an 8 month old kid can generate. Goodness.
Anyway, that’s all for now. More updates soon.

As some of you know, Nolan was sleeping great after about 6 weeks (roughly 10 hrs a night). Then, around 4 months he developed some pretty bad acid reflux and started waking up 3-4 times a night in pain. After trying everything under the sun we caved and went with some low dose, doctor prescribed medicine, and that has finally started to kick in. Unfortunately, he’s used to waking up that much and eating. So, this week we made two changes: 1) we finally said enough is enough and stopped swaddling him at night. Now it’s just the sleep sack. 2) Out of the blue, I decided to let him cry it out one night. Usually he goes down without a problem, but on Wed the 26th he was fussy and awake, and rather than rock him forever I left the room and let him cry once he realized I was gone. It was a horrrrrrrrrible 30 minutes. Nolan wailed non-stop and I watched the entire thing on the video monitor feeling helpless. Well, after a brutal 30 minutes, he stopped on a dime and slept better that night than he had in 2 months (only waking up once). I tried putting him down awake the next night expecting the worst, and he surprised me by talking for a few minutes then passing out without any crying. Such a good boy.
In part to reward him for going without a swaddle and going to sleep on his own, we took him to his first baseball game today: Cardinals vs Padres. Though he wanted to see a Cubs or Yankees game first, he was pretty excited that he got to see Albert Pujols in person. Mr. Pujols didn’t disappoint - he hit a HR in his 3rd at bat that was a monster. The boos from the crowd startled him though, so we didn’t last too much longer after that. Oh well - it was still a blast and we can’t wait to take him to the stadium again.
